The moment everything changed, you may know it well. The time that you sold your first piece of art. The whispers of praise from strangers as they stood over your table, and the joys of seeing money go into your Venmo account. The moment your whole world shifted. The moment you felt like a real artist.

The Fields of "Enoughness"

If you're an artist like me you may have frolicked in the fields of "enoughness," debating whether or not others would buy your art. This land can be endless, with thoughts and fears jumping at you from every which way. It can also be dangerous, not allowing you to see the true value in your art.

So, how do you get out? I've found that selling my first piece of art changed everything.

My first piece left the table into a hand of a stranger yesterday, and let me just say that I never expected people to enjoy my artwork, let alone buy it! So it came as a surprise to me when my college's president bought one of my cards.

Now, of course, you don't have to sell your art to get out of these fields. In fact, the easiest way to do it might be by believing in yourself! For me, however, selling my first piece changed everything. It took me from sitting next to my parents, anxiously debating if I should make my first TikTok video, to making an income and showing myself that I am good enough. It made me feel like a true artist. Yes, the $5 added to my bank account that most people would probably roll their eyes at, it changed my world!

You may know this moment well as an accomplished artist or writer, but as someone just exploring into the field of selling my work, it felt like a million bucks.

So, here's to exploration, art, and creativity. Here's to my first sale!
